Privacy Policy
The short version: we don't store your photos longer than it takes to analyze them. We don't sell your data. We don't build user profiles for advertising. The longer version is below — we tried to make it readable.
Contents
1. Scope of this policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Five to Nine Labs LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Appraisy mobile application ("Appraisy" or "the app") and the website at appraisy.app. This policy does not apply to any third-party services or websites that may be linked from the app or this website.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide directly
- Photographs: When you use Appraisy to evaluate an item or listing, you submit one or more photographs. These photographs are sent to our servers and forwarded to our AI provider for analysis. We do not retain copies of your photos after analysis completes.
- Optional context: If you add written context about an item (such as condition notes, asking price, or where you saw the listing), that text is sent alongside your photos for analysis and is also not retained server-side.
- Subscription information: If you subscribe to Appraisy Plus, your purchase is processed by Apple. We do not see or store your payment card information. We do receive a transaction identifier from Apple, via RevenueCat, that lets us validate your subscription.
Information collected automatically
- Device identifier: When you use the app, we generate a non-personal device identifier (Apple's "identifier for vendor") that resets if you delete and reinstall the app. We use this to enforce free-tier monthly limits and detect abuse. It cannot identify you personally.
- Diagnostic and usage data: We collect anonymous diagnostic information (crashes, errors, app version, device model, OS version) and aggregate usage patterns (which features get used, how often the app is opened) to fix bugs and improve the product. This data does not include your photos, your appraisal results, or anything that identifies you personally.
What we do not collect
- We do not require an account, so we do not collect your name, email, phone number, or password.
- We do not access your contacts, calendar, location, microphone, or files outside what you explicitly share with the app.
- We do not use third-party advertising networks. There are no ads in Appraisy.
- We do not build a behavioral profile of you for advertising or resale.
3. How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- Generate the appraisal you requested (the only use of your photos)
- Validate and manage your subscription if you have one
- Enforce the free-tier monthly appraisal limit
- Detect and prevent abuse, spam, or fraudulent use of the service
- Diagnose crashes and fix bugs
- Understand which features users find valuable, in aggregate
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your information for marketing email, retargeting advertisements, behavioral profiling, or sale to data brokers.
4. Third-party services
Appraisy uses a small number of well-established third-party services to function. Each is listed below with a description of what data it receives and what it does with it:
Anthropic (anthropic.com)
Our AI appraisal engine is powered by Anthropic's Claude. When you submit a photograph for analysis, the photograph and any context you provided are sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models. Their privacy practices are described at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
Supabase (supabase.com)
Supabase hosts our backend infrastructure, which acts as a relay between the app and Anthropic. Photographs pass through Supabase but are not stored there. Supabase logs may briefly contain device identifiers and anonymized request metadata for security and operational purposes. Their privacy practices are described at supabase.com/privacy.
RevenueCat (revenuecat.com)
If you subscribe to Appraisy Plus, RevenueCat handles subscription validation and entitlement management. RevenueCat receives an anonymous user identifier from us and the transaction identifier from Apple. They do not receive your payment card details. Their privacy practices are described at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Apple Inc.
The App Store handles all subscription billing. Apple collects your payment information directly; we never see it. Apple may share with us a transaction identifier and basic subscription status. Their privacy practices are described at apple.com/legal/privacy.
PostHog (posthog.com)
We use PostHog to understand anonymized aggregate usage patterns — which features are tapped, how often the app is opened, where in a flow people stop. PostHog receives only the device identifier and event names. It does not receive your photos, appraisal content, or anything personally identifying. Their privacy practices are described at posthog.com/privacy.
Sentry (sentry.io)
We use Sentry for crash and error reporting. When the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, Sentry receives a stack trace, app version, OS version, and device model. It does not receive your photos or appraisal content. Their privacy practices are described at sentry.io/privacy.
We may add or change third-party services in the future. Material changes will be reflected in an updated version of this policy.
5. How long we keep data
- Photographs and appraisal context: Not retained server-side after analysis completes. The full appraisal result (including a copy of the photo) is stored locally on your device.
- Device identifier and quota counter: Retained for the rolling current calendar month plus 90 days, then purged.
- Subscription records: Retained for as long as you have an active subscription, plus seven years after for tax and accounting compliance, as required by law.
- Diagnostic logs: Retained by our service providers (Sentry, Supabase) according to their default retention windows, typically 30–90 days.
- Aggregate usage data: Retained indefinitely in anonymized form for product improvement.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have about you
- Request a copy of your personal information
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
If you are a resident of California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar privacy laws (including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, and other US states with comprehensive privacy laws), these rights are codified in your local statutes (CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, UK GDPR, etc.).
Because we do not require an account, the personal information we hold about you is generally limited to your device identifier, your subscription record (if any), and any diagnostic data tied to that identifier. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@fivetoninelabs.com.
7. How to delete your data
The fastest path to delete the data we hold about you is to delete the Appraisy app from your device. This removes all locally-stored appraisal history immediately. Your device identifier on our servers will roll out of our retention window within 90 days.
To delete your subscription record before the legal retention period ends, or to confirm complete deletion of any other data, email privacy@fivetoninelabs.com from a verifiable source. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Children's privacy
Appraisy is not directed to children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with information, please contact us at privacy@fivetoninelabs.com.
The app is rated 4+ in the App Store and contains no content inappropriate for younger users, but children should use it only with parental supervision.
9. International users
Appraisy is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, transfers of your information to the United States are made under appropriate safeguards as required by applicable law, including the Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.
10. Security
We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+), restricted access to production systems, and the principle of least privilege for any data access by us or our service providers.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will provide a more prominent notice (such as an in-app banner on first launch after the change). Your continued use of the app after a change indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
